3 x 3 schools from Russia, Finland and Austria form 3 triangle partnerships and co-operate on shared projects on cultural diversity and how to deal with it in their particular context.
Participating schools are:
Triangle 1: Russia: School Nr. 43, St. Petersburg, Finland: Finish-Russian School (Itä-Suomen koulu, Eastern Finland), Austria: GRG21, floating school „Bertha von Suttner“ (Vienna)
Triangle 2: Russia: Grammar School Nr 74 (St. Petersburg), Finland: Turun normaalikoulu (Turku), Austria: BRG15 (Henriettenplatz/Vienna)
Triangle 3: Russia: Grammar School Nr. 171 (St. Petersburg), Finland: Kallio Jukio School with an emphasis on performing arts (Helsinki), Austria: BRG 2 (Vereinsgasse/ Vienna)
The project is carried out against the background of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue and a major initiative for tolerance in St. Petersburg, which lasts until 2010.
Aim:
The topic of cultural diversity at school and in other spheres of life will be discussed. The project targets students aged 14-19 from the participating schools.
Agenda:
In December 2007, two representatives from each of the participating schools met in St. Petersburg. The meeting was conducted by the three project experts Dr. Dietmar Larcher, Elena Kazakova and Liisa Jääskeläinen. In the meeting, the three school triangles worked out topics for their shared projects.
- Triangle1: My self-perception in a tolerant world – comparison of values and stereotypes
- Triangle2: Living together in a multicultural city: the role of the media in dealing with variety
- Triangle3: Architecture and cultural variety: urban development and its contribution to intercultural dialogue
Throughout the months to come, the schools will continue working on these topics and further develop the projects online (a decision about the shared communication platform has not yet been reached). Teachers and students of the partnership triangles will again meet in March 2008 (St. Petersburg) and May 2008 (Seggauberg/Graz/Maribor). Results and products of the school projects will be finalized until the first meeting in March 2008.
