5. Idea of the project / project description / runtime
The idea of the project is to promote cultural understanding and contact between teenagers from different countries by creating a travel guide for young people (either tourists or immigrants) by young people. In this travel guide the participating students will describe places of interest in their home towns: St. Petersburg, Vienna and Vantaa.
The travel guide will be published in form af a website in order to reach a greater public and to allow for extension and adaptation by readers. A main website, which introduces our project, team and aims will link to three national websites, one for Finland, Austria and Russia each. The main website will be produced together but the national websites will be created independently by the national teams.
The focus of this online travel guide will not be on standard information about famous sights but on places of interest for young people and will give a very personal view of the writer's home town. Furthermore the websites will include cultural information and a glossary of useful phrases.
A CD with an offline - version of the collected information will also be produced.
The whole website will be completed within a year.

8. Comment the projects here
“Three schools from Austria, Finland and Russia met in St. Petersburg to work on one project. We called our team FAR, which stands for Finland, Austria and Russia. Our motto “Friendship makes our relations better”, should point out that it is very essential to have friends all over the world. Our project “Learning to travel together”, consists of three websites. We will have a main website, where you will be able to see information about our team and the project. Then there will be links to Finland, Austria and Russia. On these links you will find a travel guide to the country and important places that you can visit there. The websites are mainly made for teenagers and students. We will also include a comment box, to get feedback of the users. I personally really enjoy this project. It is great fun to work on it. I also enjoyed being in St. Petersburg, visiting the Hermitage and meeting the different Russian and Finish schools. All in all, the cultural program in St. Petersburg was very interesting. I think it was a great experience to meet people from three different countries. I’m looking forward to the next meetings.” – Olivia, Austria
“On the 4th of April 08 we met our teacher at the airport to fly to Russia. We landed there and the first problems started. Our teacher’s visa had the false passport number so we had to wait for 15 minutes while our teacher got a new visa. The people from the other Viennese schools waited for us. As all the people were ready we drove to the “Nevsky Central Hotel”. I lived in a room with one of the other Austrians. She was very nice. After we were there and put our stuff in the rooms we went out and looked around the beautiful city of St. Petersburg. The next day all the Austrian schools had to wait in front of the hotel and waited for our tour guides to learn something about the city. The Finnish schools arrived at 22:30. On the 6th of April we had a foot trip to the Hermitage. On this day we first met our Finnish and Russian partner schools. Then we had lunch in a café. After the good lunch we had a Bus city tour. The school number 43, one of the Russian schools had a program called “Circle of friends”. We enjoyed it a lot. The day after that beautiful day we had to work on our project. Once we went to a ballet and once we saw a symphony orchestra. The day before we had to leave, all groups were in one school and we played funny games. After that we went to the shopping center with our last money and bought our families some presents. The last day we had to present our project and had to say our group’s names. Our group was called FAR (Finland, Austria, Russia). I thought all the groups had good ideas. After the lunch we had to say good bye to each other. That was sad and it rained on that day.
I think the best thing of the trip was that we could eat with a family once and we really communicated and did a project with people from other countries. And we will see each other in Vienna again and they can see a little bit of our life. I hope that this project will once include more than just three countries. I am so exited that the Finish and Russian school will come to Vienna and I hope that the contact does not break. And the funniest thing was that they gave me a nick name: now I am “Ha-ha-tuschka”.” – Michaela, Austria
