5. Idea of the project / project description / runtime // Entstehung der Projektidee / Projektbeschreibung / Laufzeit

Politics plays more and more important role in our everyday life.

Young people, whether they want it or not, are daily faced with ever new and changing political situations from mass media.

Since Slovenia and Croatia are relatively young countries with a short tradition of democracy, we decided to make a survey

among students of different secondary schools in Celje and Zagreb to see how much politics plays a part in their lives.

We started with the project in December 2007 and we will present the results at “Dialoguing Youth-Event" in May 2008.

6. Aims of the project // Projektziele

The main aim of the project is to find out what young people, that is, students from different secondary schools in two

neighboring countries (Slovenia and Croatia), think about politics and how they see politicians (positively or negatively)?

Are they interested in actively participating in politics?

7. Detailed project-schedule and method (who, what, when, how?) // detailierter Zeitplan und Methode der Umsetzung (wer, was, wann, wie?)

100 surveys will be given to the students of age 16 to 18 in Celje and 100 in Zagreb.

This will be done by one class (about 25 students)or by project participants in each partner school.

The analyses of the survey will be presented in tables and graphic as well.

The project coordinator and students from Zagreb will come to Celje from 02. to 04. April 2008.

The students from both partner schools will visit the Slovene parliament in Ljubljana.

Presentation will be made with PowerPoint and on posters.

Second Report - YOUTH & POLITICS

The primary goal of this project is cooperation between two teams who are about the same age, but come from various

countries and speak different languages and what they have in common is a task to question their peers about their opinion

on the given topic.

An intercultural dialogue is established because the youth in every country has similarities in terms of music they listen

to, fashion which they follow…

But, youth is also determined by its own culture and upbringing, environment in which it lives and that’s where differences

appear.

As the topic which we selected is the relationship between youth and politics. We find that relationship very interesting

to Croats and Slovenians considering the fact that we share a common history and we are young democratic states which still

more or less are going through a transition. Even though Slovenia is a member state of the European Union, Croatia will

become one in the future.

The Croatian team visited Slovenian team in April, we associated, exchanged our experience and arranged further development

of our shared project.

The project itself is carried out with an opinion poll which contains 15 questions about the topic of youth and politics.

That survey is intended for youth between 16 and 18 years of age. In both countries 100 opinion polls will be filled out,

which means 200 opinion polls will reveal opinion of the young ones. We will statistically analyze the results and present

it via PowerPoint presentation and posters.

Participation in the project may have more outcomes: the youth from both countries has a chance to get to know each other

better, communicate in mother tongue and English. Namely, Slovenian and Croatian language contain similarities so we can

understand each other, but for needs of this project we use knowledge of English.

Participation in this project has long – term positive results and develops international cooperation. With this a dialogue

is established between those who will one day be politics and bring decisions about it directly or indirectly.

Here you can see our questionnaire, and maybe you are curious about your answers!

A QUESTIONNAIRE

We have been working on a joint project with the Katarina Zrinski private school from Zagreb. The project is one of many,

supported and organized by Kulturkontakt from Austria.

The theme of our project is The young in politics«.

Our main aim is to find out what secondary-school students from both countries think about this topic.

The survey will be presented at the International Meeting which is taking place at the end of May in Austria.

Please take a few minutes of your time to fill in this questionnaire. Please bare in mind that where your answer is supposed to be

graded, one is the lowest and five the highest mark.

Thank you for your time and cooperation!
